Andrew “Andy” Joseph Echle, 94, of Circleville, passed away on October 21, 2009. Andy was born on August 23, 1915, the son of Joseph and Catherine (Wagner) Echle. He retired from the Chillicothe VA Medical Center as a Recreation Director with 32 years of service. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Circleville, the American Legion, Amvets, Elks Lodge and Commerical Travelers. He was also a member of the Hall of Fame at San Diego State University for basketball achievements. He achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was the “greatest husband in the world” to his loving wife, Velma, and a good friend to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his 2 brothers, William and Regis Echle; sisters, Flora Echle, Anna Pike, Margaret Fernside, Marie Horton, Gertrude Newlove and Genevieve Stewart. He is survived by his wife, Velma (Reffett) Echle, daughter, Victoria A. (James) Strye; grandson, Brian Strye; granddaughter, Monica Strye (Sean) Foley; great granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Strye; sister, Catherine Echle Rossi and many loving nephews, nieces and other relatives. Funeral services will be held on Monday October 26, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 134 W. Mound St., Circleville. Family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the church. A private graveside service will be held at a later time and date at the Elks Cemetery in McArthur, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to Berger Hospice, 1170 N. Court St., Circleville, OH 43113 or to the charity of choice.
