Barbara Sieverts Bevan passed away peacefully at Brown Memorial Home with loving husband of over 34 years Thomas Bevan at her side the evening of October 16, 2011. She was born in Circleville, on March 5, 1941, graduated valedictorian of Circleville High School in 1959 and magna cum laude with a degree in English from Capital University in 1963. Her 34 year career as an educator included teaching English at high schools in Ohio, California and Arizona. Locally, she taught English at Logan Elm High School and Circleville Junior High School, and English and Science at Circleville High School until her retirement in 2000. She was a caring, supportive and encouraging teacher; when interviewed at her retirement said to students “don’t ever lose your dreams; you’ll get there.” Barbara read on the radio for the blind with Voice Corps for six years and volunteered at the Pumpkin Show Information Booth. Barbara was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the American Association of University Women, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, the Pickaway County Retired Teachers Association and a life member of the Pickaway County Friends of the Library. She is survived by brother, Walt Sieverts (Scott, Kristen); aunt, Ella Kohlhoff; brother-in-law, Robert (Nancy) Bevan (Scott, Suzanne); sister-in-law, Barbara Ward (Kim, Suzanne, Brian); sons, Erik and Kohl (Wilda) Sudduth, Dave (Kim) Bevan (Aimee, Chris), Keith (Jen) Bevan (Chloe, Jonah); daughter-in-law, Karen Bevan (Mike, Kayla) and special friends, Jim and Lyn Long of Virginia. She was preceded in death by parents, Fritz Sieverts, Anne Sieverts-Cline and Col. William J.B. Cline; aunt, Senta Syring and son-in-law, Robert Bevan. Special thanks to Pastor John Mittermaier for his prayers. Thanks to all of her friends at J.R. Hooks for their support. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Berger Hospice or Brown Memorial Home. Cremation has take place and the family will receive friends at Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville 1-4 p.m. on Saturday October 29, 2011 and 1-5 p.m. on Sunday October 30, 2011 with a private funeral at Forest Cemetery on Monday October 31, 2011 at 9:00 a.m.
