Betty Garrett Gentzel, 74, of Circleville, OH, beloved mother and grandmother, died Friday, May 18, 2012, peacefully surrounded by family, at OSU Medical Center, following complications of Wegener's Granulomatosis. She was born in Vinton County on July 7, 1937, to Jesse Seitz Garrett and Chauncey Carl Garrett. Betty graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1954. She was preceded in death by her parents at an early age; a brother, Glenn Garrett (young child); sister, Garnet Betts in 1995; brother, Wade Garrett in 2003; and sister, Blanche Vickers in 2006. She was employed as an executive secretary and human resources manager for the former USS Chemicals Company in Circleville, OH for 30 years until her retirement in 2004; and most recently as a greeter at the Circleville Walmart store, where she enjoyed meeting new people and seeing old friends. She was a member of the Circleville Church of the Nazarene. Betty will be remembered for her devotion to her family, and she most especially enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters and attending all of their sporting events, cheerleading events, and school and church activities throughout their lives. Betty is survived by her daughter, Deborah Gentzel Blount (Lt Col Howard P. Blount, III, MD) of Del Rio, TX; her beloved granddaughters, Adrienne Ott Kohli (Brooks Kohli) of Albuquerque, NM; and Jordan Olivia Ott of Circleville, OH; sister-in-law, Mrs. Marcella Garrett, Chillicothe, OH; several nieces and nephews, and many friends. Special thanks to great friends, Mrs. Miriam Hobble, Mrs. Peggy Thompson, Mrs. Rosemary Crabtree, the Rev. William G. and Mrs. Katherine Hill of Circleville, OH for their support, friendship, prayers, and visitation during her eight months in the hospital, as well as throughout Betty's lifetime. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm on Wednesday, May 23rd, at Wellman Funeral Home, North Court Street, Circleville. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm on Thursday, May 24th, at Wellman Funeral Home, with the Reverend William G. Hill officiating.
