Carl Clay

Carl Clay, 83, of Circleville passed away peacefully on June 22, 2023 surrounded by his family.  He was born on March 20, 1940 in Cable County, WV to Walter and Maryanne (Lucas) Clay and was raised in Gallipolis.  Carl was a retired Veteran of the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division.  He was a retired Teamster moved to South Carolina and spent remaining years fishing, golfing and attending his garden and spending time with his family.  Carl was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Edgar, Nathan, Lester, Tom, Billy Clay; sisters Redith Bartrim, Ardith Hutchison, Geneva Clay, Ginny Gibbs and by many nieces and nephews.  He is survived by his wife of 59 years Lois Ellen (Guthrie) Clay; children Sheri (Rick) Smith, Shane Clay, Candi (Jeff) Taylor, Tammi (Don) Castle; grandchildren Matt, Misty, Nick, Mallorie, Megan, Rachel and Jacob; great grandchildren Hannah, Sadie, Jaxson; siblings Bob and Curly Clay and by sisters Louise Caldwell and Bunny Gay.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville.  Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12.  Online condolences can be made to www.wellmanfuneralhomes.com.
