Carl Leroy Elick, 85, of Laurelville, Ohio passed away after a brave, yearlong fight on Tuesday, September 05, 2023. He was born December 11, 1937 in Lancaster, Ohio to the late Robert Elick and Berneice Elick. He was married on March 8, 1960 to Sue (Davis) Elick of Laurelville.
He was predeceased by father & mother, step-mother Lura Elick, brother and sister-in-law Bobby and Joyce Elick, sister and brother-in-law Louanna and Nevin “Woody” Woodside, brother-in-law, Jerry Perry and son-in-law Dave Saum.
He owned & operated Carl’s Garage & Wrecker service in Adelphi, Ohio for many years and also was a U.S. Army Veteran stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky from 1961 to 1963.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sue, daughter, Carla Saum of Lancaster, Ohio, grandson, Michael (Stephanie) Saum of Utica, Ohio, great-granddaughter Lotus Saum and bonus great-grandchildren Lillian & Loukas. Also surviving is his sister Betty Perry of McArthur, Ohio as well as many nieces, nephews, caring friends and neighbors.
Visiting hours will be Thursday, September 7 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Wellman’s Funeral Home in Laurelville, Ohio. Funeral Service will be held the following day, Friday, September 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Wellman's. Reverend Jim Vandagriff will be officiating with burial and military service immediately following at Otterbein Cemetery, Goosecreek Road, South Bloomingville, Ohio.
We would like to thank the many family, friends and neighbors who took the time to offer help whether it was rides to the hospital or nursing home, helping to take care of the yard work at the house, visiting Carl at the nursing home to pray and lift his spirits and the emotional support. You are truly a blessing.
