Carl Matthews, Jr., 62 of Circleville, rested in God’s hand Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He was born September 26, 1949 in Coward, SC, to Carl and Sarah Matthews, Sr. He graduated from Carver High School in 1967. Carl served in the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1989 attaining the rank of E5 Staff Sergeant. Carl moved from Coward, South Carolina in 1994 to Ohio, where General Electric Lighting employed him in 1995. He retired in October of 2010 due to illness. He was a member of Faith Ministries in Circleville with the position of head Deacon and President of the Brotherhood. Carl will especially be remembered for his kind and generous heart, his disciplinary demeanor and his love for family and friends. Carl was preceded in death by his father, Carl Matthews, Sr.; mother, Sarah Matthews and aunt, Louise Stuckey. He is survived by his wife, Conchita; daughter, Ashley; stepson, Chandler Williamson (Alice), of GA; 3 brothers, Stanley (Marie) of SC, Huston (Angela) of MD and Terry (Shirlydean) of SC; aunts, Mary Jane (Levern) Hall, Frances Wearing and Earlean Coletrain all of SC, Easter Harris and Vera Mae Williams of Washington D.C. and Marie Harris of NY; nieces and nephews, Stancy (Lucretia), Sabrina (Brantley) McClam, Maria, Tarzmisha Hugee, Cathy (Craig) Deshuras, Jaleesa, Heather, Amber and Lashonda; brother-in-laws, Forrest (Chicquita) Lowe and Scott (Rose) Lowe; sister-in-laws, Pastor Paula L. Tiller, Deborah Wright, Dee Anna (James) Lynch, Christa Lowe, Tonya Lowe, Lorisa Lowe, Laura Shroyer and a host of great nieces and nephews and friends. Viewing will be Monday, December 26, 2011 at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville, from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday December 27, 2011 at the Second Baptist Church, 130 W. Mill St, Circleville, with Pastor Paula L. Tiller officiating. Interment will be at Forest Cemetery.
