Charles "Chuck" Smith

Charles W. Smith passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2013.  He was born May 21, 1935 in Columbus to Cletus and Rose (Swedenberg) Smith.  He was a 1953 graduate of Jackson Township School where he played basketball, football, and baseball.  He so enjoyed watching his three grandsons also play these sports and share stories with them of his playing days.  Chuck proudly served in the United States Army as part of the 2nd Armored Division Hell on Wheels and the 3rd Armored Division-Spearhead.  After the Army, Chuck went to work at the Circleville General Electric Lamp Plant, where he retired from after 41 years.  He is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 59 years, Linda Lou (Funk) smith, daughter Nancy Pontious and sister Sandy Eitel.  Chuck is survived by his son Steven (Beth) Smith of Ashville and grandsons Zachary (Caitlynn) Smith of Mt. Sterling, Wyatt (Chrystal) Pontious of Circleville and Ivan Smith of Ashville; brother Donald (Joan) Smith of Circleville and brother-in-law Bob Eitel and sisters-in-law Phyliss McCoy, Sara Jane Picklesimer, Carolyn Funk, Marilyn Hettinger and Pat Funk and by several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville with burial to follow in Jackson Township Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Thursday from 11-1.  Memorial contributions are suggested to Pickaway County Veterans Services, 141 West Main Street, Circleville, Ohio 43113.  Online condolences can be made to www.wellmanfuneralhomes.com.
