Clarence “Chet” Cathel, born November 28, 1948, flew past “the second star to the right and straight on ‘til morning” July 4, 2011, to join his family and friends in Never-never Land. Chet was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Geneva (Wilkinson) Cathel, step-son, Nathaniel Gloyd and nephew, Jeffrey Dotson. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia “Cindy” Cathel; sisters, Alice (Herman) Dotson of Wellington, KY and Deborah (Randy) George of Columbus, OH; ex-wife and mother of his children, Janet (Layman) Cathel; daughter, Shauna (Candy Doyle) Cathel of Laurelville; son, Marcus (Tracy) Cathel of Columbus; step-daughter, Nicole (Patrick) Timmons of Cleveland, TN; grandchildren, Cassie Cathel, Tony (Brittany Nibert) Griffith, Sarah (Cody) Wolfe, Jordan and Bailey Timmons and Kaige Grambo-Gloyd; great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Griffith; several nieces, nephews and friends. Chet also has an older brother, Eugene Cathel. Chet was most recently an employee of Anchor Hocking Glass in Lancaster, and a member of the Massieville chapter of I.B.A. (Independent Bikers Association), to whom he is known as “Skipper”. He’s a former employee of the State of Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections, Trim Systems, MedLine and ACT, Inc. He was a member of Ohio Knights of Pythias, Kalico Krowd and Track Town Shirts & Skirts square dance clubs and the Capital City Cloggers. As a young man, he was a member of the Job Corps and he served in the United States Army. The family wishes to thank the Med-One Team, Radiology Staff and Nurses at Riverside Methodist Hospital; Dr. Scott Blair and the team at Columbus Oncology & Hematology Associates, Inc. the V.A. Nurse, Wanda Weaver that stopped along the road to help Chet; and most of all we wish to thank the wonderful team at Berger Hospice Care for their love, understanding and support, no matter what time of day or night. Funeral service will be held 12:00 noon Friday July 8, 2011 at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville, with Chaplain Jim Ferrell officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Twp. Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 10:00 until the time of service on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to Berger Hospice.
