C. Maxine (nee Black) Stebelton, 96, passed away Aug. 23, 2024, in Circleville, OH. Known by “Max” to her friends and coworkers, she was a happy, energetic, and spunky lady who was always up for a car ride, trip to the lake, or visit with family.
Born May 26, 1928, the sixth of seven children of Franklin Pierce Black and Katherine Cormany Black, she was raised on a Pickaway County dairy farm. She often talked about planting and harvesting garden vegetables with her sisters, then cooking, canning, and freezing the food to sustain the family throughout the year. She attended Madison Elementary and graduated from Walnut High School.
At 19, Maxine married Alvin (Jake) Stebelton and they raised four children; they were married 40 years until Jake’s death. She never re-married and attributed that to having all the love and support of her four wonderful children to fulfill her life.
In her later years, Maxine worked preparing pies, making noodles, and serving up lunches at the Auto auction restaurant in Obetz. Maxine never failed to greet and engage with all the customers up until she was 90 years old. She honed her people skills working as a teller for 25 years at the Canal Winchester Bank and learned her work ethic growing up on the farm.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings Esther (Jack) Huston, Robert Black, Kenny (Ann) Black, Dewey (Janet) Black, Jane (Don) Truex, and Lois (Nick) Melvin. She is survived by her four children Jerry Stebelton, Larry (Janet) Stebelton, Cathy Bice and Teresa (Peter) Boissiere. She is also survived by her grandchildren Eric (Lori) Stebelton, Amber (William) Stephens, Megan Boissiere, Nick Boissiere and Valerie Bice. She will be missed by her six great-grandchildren and all of her extended family.
In lieu of a traditional funeral service, the family will host a celebration of life at a time to be determined. In honor of her memory, the family requests donations to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, Donate To Degeneration Foundation , in her name. The family would also like to thank OhioHealth Berger Hospice and the staff at Pickaway Manor for their care and compassion.  A Celebration of Life will be held on September 14, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Slate Run Park, Buzzard Nest Shelter House.  Desserts only.
