After a hard-fought battle with cancer, our beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, Connie Seaburn Mahaffey, died peacefully surrounded by her family on November 16, 2016, at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, OH.
Connie leaves behind her husband John Mahaffey; sons Kent Seaburn and Paul Seaburn (fiancé Alicia Kimball); sister Jan Borcherding (wife Chris Heck); sister-in-law Mary Beth Borcherding; stepchildren Joshua Mahaffey (wife Megan) and Nora Mahaffey; and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones.
Born Connie Mae Borcherding on November 3, 1954 in Cincinnati, OH, to her parents William and Ruth Borcherding, Connie grew up the youngest of three children. She is predeceased by her parents and her brother Lawrence Borcherding, as well as by her first husband Stephen Seaburn.
Connie attended Miami University and the University of Cincinnati, later going onto a long and dedicated career in public service. She retired in 2014, having served the State of Ohio for more than 30 years, most recently as Fiscal Officer for the Legislative Service Commission.
Connie lived most of her adult live in Williamsport, OH, and the surrounding area. She was a devout and very active member of the Williamsport United Methodist Church, where over the years she spent time directing the vocal choir, organizing young adult programs, managing the church’s finances, gathering with friends, and reaching out to the community in numerous ways.
In her retirement, Connie enjoyed volunteering at both Berger Hospital in Circleville, OH, and the Circleville Public Library. She was an avid theatergoer, card player, puzzle solver, and reader, once describing the novel Christy by Catherine Marshall as an “old friend.” She traveled the country on family vacations but her favorite getaway was the Chautauqua at Lakeside, OH, which she visited every summer since childhood.
Connie believed in an essential goodness at the core of every person. Even in the final days of her life, she gave us so much and thought of others before herself. She will be deeply missed.
