Daniel Akers, 62, of, Stoutsville, went home to be with the Lord August 16, 2012 in Florida. He was born February 5, 1950 in Wytheville, VA, the son of Everett and Audene (Shipwash) Akers. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and retired from Roadway as a truck driver. Dan was a loving, giving, funny, hard working Christian man. He was a loyal husband, father, grandfather and friend and also a great artist. He was affectionately known as Papaw, Q Ball, Cannonball Dan, Dan-O, Dan the man and Big Green Van. He was preceded in death by his parents; former wives, Brenda and Shirley “Tudy” and sister, Judy Akers. He is survived by his wife, Linda (Young) Valentine Akers; children, Danna (Chris) Smith of Grove City and Patrick (Kym) Akers of Memphis, TN; step-children, Todd (Shelly) Valentine of Circleville, Kasy (Matt) Wetzel of Grove City and Kara (Bryan) Rettkowski of Circleville. 7 grandchildren, Cheva, Nathan, Ginger, Liam, Evan, Ty and Trace and brother, Steve Akers. Funeral service will be held 7:00 p.m. Wednesday August 22, 2012 at the Community United Methodist Church with Pastor Barry Burns officiating. Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday in Grove City Cemetery with military honors. Family and friends will gather at the Potters House Church of God, Columbus immediately following the burial.
