D. Gene Damron, 78, of Circleville passed away on June 22, 2018. He was born
to Ezra and Sarah (Hopkins) Compton. He went into the Marines at 17 years old on January 1, 1958. He attended Bootcamp at Camp LeJeune . He went to the Lebanon for the crisis and he also volunteered to go thru the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway. He did 3 tours in Okinawa, Japan. He was in Okinawa during Vietnam where his unit repaired guns and sent them back to the military in Vietnam. He was with the Marine Corps shooting team as armour for 8 years at Quantico, Virginia where he retired after 20 years of service on December 31, 1977. He loved God, his UK Wildcats, sports of any kind, his family and cooking. He had a gentle soul, beautiful nature and had a love for everyone. We love you honey, dad, daddy-o, pop pop and Gene. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings Sollie, Charlie, Dewey and Kermit Compton and Fannie Bentley. Gene is survived by his wife Connie Damron, children Cerina Bauer, Kelli (Paul) Arasz, Gerri (Joe) Pettit and David (Rita) Houts, grandchildren Cidney Bauer and Wyatt and Scarlett Houts, brother Bobby Compton and sister Nannie Bentley. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 25, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville with burial to follow in Forest Cemetery with full military honors.
