Dick Tootle

Dick Tiffin Tootle, 87, of Circleville was born in Wayne Twp., Pickaway County, on August 21, 1923 to James and Mary (Lutz) Tootle. He graduated from Centralia High School (now Zane Trace) in 1941 and attended Ohio University. In 1943 he was married to Ruth Cryder and together they lived on the family farm for 56 years. Dick had a quick wit and loved life, family, friends, farming and travel. Community service was on local and state Farm Bureau Committees, Circleville Rotary Club, Pickaway County Historical Society, Masonic Bodies, 8 years as Pickaway County Commissioner and in 1977 appointed to Ohio State Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee. In 1983 he became Chief of the Division of Plant Industry in the Ohio Department of Agricultural and from 1986 until retirement in 1988 he was Assistant Director of Agricultural for the State of Ohio. He has continued to be active in the Community United Methodist Church and as a director of Pickaway Terrace Senior Housing. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James R. Tootle, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, of 67 years; sons, Thomas F. (Barbara) Tootle and Robert M. (Constance) Tootle both of Circleville; 5 grandchildren, Brian Tootle of San Diego, CA, Megan (Nathan) Turner of Philadelphia, PA, Adam Tootle of Columbus, Molly K. Tootle and Matthew Tootle of Circleville. Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday July 18, 2011 at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville, with Pastor Barry Burns officiating. Burial will be in Springbank Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Community UMC Building Fund, 120 N.
