Donald Eugene Jackson, 82, formally of Laurelville, passed away peacefully in his sleep November 26, 2023 at the home of his son in Londonderry where he has resided since February. He was born October 27, 1941 to Charles Edward and Hazel Evelyn (Bryant) Jackson in Logan, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy Lee (Hunter) Jackson; daughter Angela "Hunter" Poling; sons Adrian (Kim) Jackson and Donny (Becki) Jackson; grandchildren: Jessica, Daniel, Chris, Tyler, Cody, Cheyenne, and Gage; great grandchildren: Sorin, Connor, Charlie, Gryffin, Maximus, Wyatt and Sage; step grandchildren: Devan and Alex; step great grandchild Gracyn; his beloved fur baby Lu Lu; and many other friends and family. He was preceded in death by his mother when he was 4 years old and by his only brother, Charles Jr. when he was 14. He was estranged from his father after his mother's death and was raised by his maternal grandparents, Matt and Ida (Boggs) Bryant who also preceded him in death. He never met a stranger and was always ready to lend a hand where needed, day or night. He served his community well over his lifetime. He was awarded the President's Volunteer Service Award in 2005 for his service with the Laurelville Volunteer Fire Department. He had 28 years of service at that time and continued to serve as his health allowed. He proudly watched over the Egan Fire Station being built from his power chair in 2021. He also served in the US Navy and was honorably discharged.
He worked hard all his life and his worn rugged body showed it. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He fought hard to stay with us but his body was ready to rest. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially his family. We all love you and will see you again on the other side. We wish to thank everyone involved with his care during his last years, especially Heartland Hospice and special caretaker Margaret Allen.
I would also like to personally thank my brother Adrian and his wife Kim for making his final months more enjoyable and care free. Without them keeping me updated and opening their home to me I wouldn't have been here with him in his final days. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. at the Wellman Funeral Home, Laurelville. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations be made C/O Wellman Funeral Home
