Doris passed away peacefully on January 1, 2015. She was born January23, 1924 in Glouster, Ohio to parents Virgil Harold and Almeda Violet (Price) Moody. She was a 1941 graduate of Marietta High School, Marietta, Ohio. Upon graduation she obtained a position at the Mead Corporation in Chillicothe, Ohio; and then became the Executive Assistant to the Director of Volunteer Service at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Chillicothe. She was married to John (Jack) Gordon Hurd on November 18, 1949 at the Walnut Street United Methodist Church in Chillicothe. Upon retirement she and Jack loved to travel, taking numerous trips each year. They particularly loved the Yellowstone and Teton National Park area; making approximately thirty-eight trips to the area over the years. Doris and Jack also loved to watch their children and grandchildren in whatever activities they participated in. Doris was always a loving and giving person; she would willingly provide transportation and support to friends in need. She was a volunteer member of Circleville Emergency Medical services and Williamsport, Deercreek Emergency Services, and served on then Representative Mike Dewine’s Committee for Military Academy Nomination. She was very loyal to friends and people she worked with; maintaining close relationships with those people throughout her life. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters; Dortha Neib and Donna West, and her loving husband. She is survived by her daughter; Judith (John) Cook and son; Jan (Debbie) Hurd both of Williamsport, Ohio, grandchildren; Jamie (Jeremy) Schaal of Circleville, Holly (Matt) Slusher of Circleville, John Robert Cook of Williamsport, Janna (Mark) Sailor of Circleville and Andrew (Diane) Hurd of Grove City. She is also survived by great grandchildren; Josh, Emily and Madison Cook, Jude Schaal, Lily Slusher, Jacob and Jason Sailor and Isaac and Logan Hurd. Per Doris’s wishes; after cremation a graveside service will be held for she and Jack at the National Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio at a later time.
