Dorothy L. Canter, 97, passed away October 16, 2017 in Chico, CA. Dorothy was born Oct 2, 1920 in Circleville, Ohio, at her grandparents house on Park Place. She was the Daughter of Charles Webster and Ada, (Boyle), Webster, (D.A.R.), of Columbus, OH. She was raised at 1369 S 3rd St, Columbus, Ohio, with sister Margaret and attended Southwood Elementary, Barrett Jr High, and South High School, (Class of 1938). Dorothy married Leonard J Canter Sr by Camp Shelby, MS, in Dec 1941 where he was preparing to depart for the South Pacific with the 37th Infantry, Ohio National Guard for the duration of WW2. Dorothy gave birth to Leonard J. Canter Jr in Sep 1942 and resided with her parents until WW2 ended. During her marriage to T/Sgt Leonard J Canter, USAF, they lived in Tucson, AZ, Savannah, Ga, Yokota AFB, Japan, El Paso, TX and returned to Columbus, Oh. In 1965 Dorothy and Leonard Sr separated: However, Dorothy did help and assist him thru sickness and difficulties for the last 20 years of his life. She always exhibited all the good qualities of a mother, a believer, and a human. Dorothy lived in Columbus and Upper Arlington from 1959 to 2007 and retired from the US Postal service, Columbus, OH, in 1972 with 20 years service and went on to work for Meijer for 10 years. In 1990 Dorothy became an Ordained Minister with the Spiritualist Church in Chesterfield, IN. For the past 10 years has been living in Florida and California close to her son Leonard Jr and Daughter-in-Law Grizzelle Canter. Surviving family members mourning Dorothy's passing are: Son, Leonard J Canter Jr & Grizzelle Canter in Chico, CA, 5 Grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren, 5 Great Great Grandchildren, and many others, including extended families, that she has loved and they loved her over the years. Dorothy has travelled extensively in the U.S.A, including Alaska & Hawaii, Japan, China, Tibet, Mexico, Peru, UK, France & Germany. Dorothy will be missed by all. Dorothy L Canter will be buried in Forest Cemetery, Circleville, Oh, next to her parents Charles and Ada Webster, Grandparents T.A. and Nellie Boyle, and Great Grandparents Samuel and Ellen Ward. A memorial service will be held at Wellman’s Funeral Home, Saturday, 10/28/2017, 10am-11am and a Committal Service at Forest Cemetery at 12 Noon. Cremation has been observed.
