Earl “Peck” Wolfe, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2008. Peck was born May 5, 1927 in Tarlton, to Randolph and Mary (Dauterman) Wolfe. An exasperated neighbor dubbed Earl a “peck of trouble” as a young boy. Though he was far from trouble as a husband, father, friend, businessman and neighbor, the nickname stuck with him. In 1957, Peck and a friend, Orville West, pooled their savings and bought a bulldozer. The company they founded, Wolfe & West, Inc., remains in operation fifty-one years later. Peck was known throughout Pickaway County for both his professional and charitable work as a contractor. In addition to donating equipment and labor to community works, he also gave his time to local youth sports leagues. He was also one of the original founders of the Saltcreek Township Volunteer Fire Department. Peck enjoyed camping (especially in the Hocking Hills), mushroom hunting, spending time with his children and grandchildren and giving rabid Ohio State fans a hard time. Peck was predeceased by his mother and father; brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and Shirley; sister and brother-in-law, Blanche Eileen “Susie” and Carl Dean and sister-in-law, Lula May. He will be sorely missed by many, including his wife, Marilyn; children, Michelle, Stephanie (“Will”) Schill and Alex (Mary); grandchildren, Isaac and Wesley; brothers, Edward, Arthur (Martha) and Robert Neal (Shirley) and his cat, Ed. A memorial service for Peck will be held at Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville, on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on the same day, from 2-4 and 6-7:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Berger Hospice Care (Berger Health Foundation, 1280 North Court St., Circleville, OH 43113, mark as “Hospice Support”) or the American Heart Association (PO Box 15120, Chicago, IL 60693).
