Our dad was many things to many people. To his family he was a constant provider, head of household, and held the final word on any issue. To his church he was a friend, a brother and a confidante. To his community he was the ‘number one” Tiger fan. To us he was the guiding light in our lives. He was of course our father and daddy. He was also our hero, our mentor and our best friend. He did what it took and always strived to do the right thing. All the goodness we know we learned from him. He was born in 1924 one of ten children. His mother was a school teacher. When his father died he was just ten years old, there was only one thing to do. He took a job at the local grocery store as an apprentice meat cutter to help support the family. He went on to graduate high school, and after graduation joined the Navy and did his duty in the South Pacific in World War II. After the war he did several things. He sang on the radio and was a regular on the Ted Mac Armature hour. He contracted polio and beat it. He raised a family and did his best everyday. Red Huston never met a stranger in his life. He loved people. He loved children and he loved to watch them grow and guide them along life’s way. He loved his Circleville Tigers. Although the Tiger’s voice has been silenced, the memory of his cheers and the way he lived his life can serve as a lesson to us all. He was not only part of the greatest generation, but to us he was the greatest of them all. RED’S three sons. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy L. (Ogg) Huston and 2 daughters. He is survived by his 3 sons; 18 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 1 sister and 3 brothers. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday June 29, 2011 at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville, with Pastor Roy Maple officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Bible Baptist Church, 1395 Duffy Rd. SE, Berne Twp., Lancaster, OH 43130.
