Elsie Harris Crosswhite passed away from this earthly realm to dwell in the house of the Lord on September 25, 2009 at Englewood Manor, Englewood, Ohio. Elsie was born on January 14, 1916 in Fayette County Ohio to the late James and Josephine (Scott) Harris. She graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1934. Years later, in 1939, she would marry the love of her life, the late Marvin Wendell Crosswhite of Washington Court House, Ohio. They were blessed with one son, the late Wendell Lee Crosswhite. Heaven rejoices over their homecoming.
Elsie’s love and dedication to her faith was evident in all aspects of her life. She was an active member of the Second Baptist Church in Washington Court House for decades. She served in many capacities including teaching Sunday school and church treasurer. After the death of her husband, Elsie moved to Dayton where she continued her Christian journey at Wayman AME Church.
Her professional life included 15 years of service at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in which she received numerous awards for her exemplary work and performance.
Elsie is preceded in death by her beloved son Wendell and husband Marvin, 1990 and 1994 respectively. Next week, October 8th would have been their 70th wedding anniversary. She is also preceded by her beloved sister, Leona Harris Walker, 2006.
She is survived by her only daughter-in-law, Frances Crosswhite of New Rochelle, New York, and four grandchildren, Gregory Crosswhite of New York, Rodric Crosswhite and wife Wanda of New Rochelle, New York, Karla Crosswhite-Chigbue and her husband, Dr. Brian Chigbue of Hanover, Maryland and James Michael Crosswhite of Durhan, North Carolina; great grandchildren, Anthony and Naemma Crosswhite, Eli Wendell Chigbue; Aaron and Arrieana Whitted; Sister Edith Harris Johns (Peanut), niece Saundra (James) Hodges; great niece, Kim (Gilford) Potter; great nephew, Stephen Powell; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Elsie lived her life with love, grace, humility and humor. You could not be in her presence for long without having a good belly laugh. Her wit and wisdom were traits to be desired. While she loved to spend time with her loved ones, read and do crossword puzzles, nothing was more important than serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Now she is in his loving eternal care. We love and miss her immensely.
