Esther VanGundy-Giffin-Farleigh

Esther (Hedges) VanGundy Giffin Farleigh, born to George and Frita (Notestone) Hedges on May 18, 1943, in Hocking County, Ohio, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2025. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, and her legacy will live on through her family.

Esther was preceded in death by her loving parents, George and Frita Hedges, as well as five brothers and three sisters. She also mourned the loss of her daughter, Esther Geneva VanGundy; son, Rob VanGundy; and her husbands, John VanGundy and Dick Giffin. Her grandchildren Randy “Tubs” VanGundy II, Meranda VanGundy, Joseph Brown, great-grandchild Arianna Williams-Busa, and daughter-in-law Barb VanGundy also predeceased her.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Ronald Farleigh, and her sister, Martha (Dan) Shepard. Esther is cherished by her sons Rick (Glena) VanGundy of Adelphi, Randy (Tonya) VanGundy of Circleville, Raymond (Pam) VanGundy of Ashville, and daughter-in-law Kim VanGundy of Circleville. She is also survived by her daughters, Shonta Farleigh and Martha Farleigh, both of Minnesota, and son Ronald Farleigh II of Lancaster. Esther's legacy includes a remarkable family of 47 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren, along with her beloved dog Princess. She held a special friendship with Miss Evelyn Walton of Circleville.

The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Riverside for the compassionate care provided to Esther in her final days.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at noon at the Wellman Funeral Home in Circleville, with burial following at Olive Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 AM to 12 PM on the same day. Online condolences may be expressed at www.wellmanfuneralhomes.com.
