Eugene “Gene” Campbell, 80, of Circleville, went to be with the Lord, peacefully with family by his side February 5, 2016. He was born October 30, 1935 in Elizabethton, TN to Cameron and Edna Joe (Whitamore) Campbell. Gene loved going to church and Bible School. He and his friends played music in churches. Gene played guitar and sang, some people said he sounded a lot like George Jones. He was drafted in the Army and served for 2 years. Gene worked for Kroger Bakery starting in Michigan, then Virginia and retired from Ohio after 45 years. He was one that couldn’t sit around so he started working for Nicholas Square Apartments as Ground Maintenance. He worked for 7 years and had to retire from having COPD. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Bill Campbell, Doris Wilson, Margaret Neal and Zella Walker, granddaughter Tiffany Drewitt McNichols, step mother Mildred Hensley Campbell. Gene is survived by his wife Brenda (Inge) Campbell, sons Gene of TN, Steven of VA and Jeffrey, daughter Kathy (Robert) Haynes of VA, step sons Jim Blackmon, Jr. of VA and John Unger of VA, step daughters Sharon O’Bryan of Rutland and Tracy Blackmon of Grove City, many grandchildren and great grandchildren including Chad Blackmon that lived with him and he reared like a son. He loved to fish, hunt, play guitar and sing. He was loved by many people and will be greatly missed by family and friends. Funeral service will be held 12:00 p.m. Monday February 8, 2016 at Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville. Friends may call from 10-12 Monday. Cremation will follow.
