Another brick in the wall of the WWII warriors and generation has passed on to that great beyond to reunite with family and comrades. On Wednesday, January 13, 2010, Francis James Fraunfelter passed away at Grant Medical Center in Columbus. He was born August 9, 1923, the son of Roy Nash and Mary (Strous) Fraunfelter. Francis gave 86 years of service to his family, his community and his country. He served four years in the U.S. Army, under the command of General George Patton. He fought in The Battle of the Bulge, was wounded and earned the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Upon his return to the states, he began dairy farming on Green Slope Farms. In 1948 he married Wilma Mae Speakman. Three children were born: Greg, Lynn and Vicki. For the next 62 years, Francis and Wilma remained on the farm on Spangler Road in Saltcreek Township, Pickaway County. During his lifetime, Francis served on the Saltcreek School Board of Education, the Tarlton Fire Department Board of Directors, was President of the Saltcreek PTO, served 16 years in a 50 year membership as Master for Saltcreek Grange, was an advisor for the Saltcreek Livestock 4-H Club for fourteen years, drove a school bus and was custodian at Saltcreek Elementary School for 30 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Lynn Mavromichalis. He is survived by his wife, Wilma: daughter, Vicki Parvis: son, Greg: three grandchildren: Shawn Fraunfelter; Meghen DiBello and Marc Parvis; three great grandchildren: Ethan, Riley and Conner. Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon Saturday January 16, 2010 at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville. Burial will be in Tarlton Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday and 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Berger Hospice.
