Fred Brown

Fred Vernon Brown (also known affectionately as “Dad”, “Pop”, “Papa Fred”, “Uncle Fred”, and probably others) passed away quietly at St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville on Tuesday afternoon after a long illness. He was 79.
Fred was a lover of life and all its pursuits; a beloved father, grandfather, and friend; and a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ. Fred also had many careers which helped make his life very unique. He was an ordained United Methodist minister, a musician, teacher, camp counselor, small business owner, ski instructor, “Mr. Fixit”, and many more.
Fred was also a tinkerer, and throughout his life built or invented several things. He built a house and experimented in alternative heating systems; he built an electric car and bicycle, and collected and restored automobiles.
Fred is preceded in death by his father Carlos, mother Ruby, brothers John and Carl, and son Brian. He is survived by his sister Brenda Young (husband Ted), sons Vernon, Evan (wife Peggy), Preston (wife Linda), daughter-in-law Vickie, grandchildren Andrew (wife Yvonne), Tarra, Diane Holly, Zachary, Scott, Thomas, and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Calling hours will be held at Wellman Funeral Home, 1455 N. Court St. in Circleville, OH on Sunday April 12, from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. A memorial service celebrating Fred’s unique and full life will be held Monday at 1:00pm at Wellman’s. Interment will follow immediately at Hitler-Ludwig Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Fred’s spirit by helping or mentoring young people in your community. Donations can also be made to The American Heart Association or Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Central Ohio.
