Fred Howcroft

Fred Allen Howcroft, age 71, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, June 16, 2012. He was born February 10, 1941 in Wheeling, WV to the late Frederick James Howcroft and Clarice Medora Allen Howcroft. Allen graduated from Marshall University in 1964 with a master's degree in music, after which he taught music and was a beloved band director for 41 years mentoring students in Catlettsburg, KY, Chesapeake, OH and Circleville, OH. He continued to have a caring, lasting and wonderful relationship with many of his students. Allen was a proud Corvette owner and enjoyed educating anyone who would listen on the attributes of the Corvette. He was a member of the Corvettes of Lancaster, National Corvette Museum, Moose Lodge #2440 of Circleville, Sons of the American Revolution, a 32nd degree Mason with Pickaway Lodge #23, and Exalted Ruler of the Circleville Elks Lodge #77. Allen was a Christian and member of St. John Church of Stoutsville and regularly attended and sang in the choir at the Whitehall United Methodist Church. Left to remember and love Allen are his devoted wife, Susan; step children, Michael Scott (Gabriella) Frank, Elizabeth (Ray) Baker, and Gregory Ayres; grandchildren, Ray Baker, Christopher Baker, Brandon Ayres, Deborah (Ben) Creamer, and Zachary Frank as well as cousins, hundreds of grateful students and treasured friends. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 19 at 7 PM at Whitehall United Methodist Church, 525 Bernhard Rd., Whitehall OH where friends/family will be received one hour prior to service with Pastor Angie Sherer officiating. The funeral service will be held at 7 PM on Wednesday, June 20 at WELLMAN FUNERAL HOME, 1455 N. Court St, Circleville, OH where family will receive friends from 4 PM-7 PM with Pastor Ted Davis officiating. Elks service will be held at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday.
