Fredrick T. Barton, age 86, of Laurelville, Ohio passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2018. He was born in Adelphi, Ohio on March 7, 1932 to the late Frank C. “Rusty” and Florence M. Barton. He is preceded in death by his wife, Alice M. Barton and brothers Frances “Sonny” Barton and James R. Barton. Fred was always the life of the party. He enjoyed music and loved to dance. In his early years, he was known for his tap dancing on stage during the Spaun Family Shows. Later in life, his dance of choice became the moonwalk. Fred ran heavy equipment for over 60 years. He worked on projects such as the Deer Creek Dam, COSI, the Columbus Zoo, Polaris, the Gavin Power Plant, and many roadways throughout Ohio. Because of his love of old cars, he was a lifelong member of the Lancaster and Chillicothe Old Car Clubs. He also served many years as a volunteer firefighter in Laurelville. Fred never met a stranger and helped many who needed it without asking for anything in return. He is survived by his three daughters, Melissa (Chris) Polley of Sweetwater TN, Kitty R. Berling of Laurelville, OH and Denise (Jonathan Jr.) Thompson of Upper Arlington, OH. He is also survived by nine grandchildren-Ryan, Matthew, Bethany, Grant, Sonja, Marley, Spencer, Lauren and Kennedy and by seven great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Wellman Funeral Home, Laurelville on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Fred will be laid to rest at Green Summit Cemetery following the service.
