Gale Leatherwood

Coit Gale Leatherwood of Ashville, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2013. He was born March 13, 1928 in Ross County, OH to Ed and Iva (Snyder) Leatherwood who predeceased him. Gale graduated from Ashville Harrison High School Class of 1946. He was a veteran of the occupation of Japan after WWII and the Korean Conflict. Gale began a swimming pool construction business first with his brothers as builder of numerous pools around Ohio and owner/operator of the Ashville Community pool and the Circleville Ted Lewis Park pools and then as sole owner of Gale Leatherwood and Associates. He was known for his excellence in that field for 45 years. He then was a partner until 1990 with his son, Mark, and David Skomorowski in LW Associates, Inc a real estate development and general construction company. Gale’s love of learning, discovery, and understanding of other cultures took him many places. He especially loved Mexico and the people of San Blas, Nayarit where he and his family wintered for over 30 years. He had numerous other interests and activities, such as sailing, painting, writing, golf, motorcycling, classic cars, and a love of history. In addition to his parents, Gale was preceded in death by his brothers and their spouses: Glenn (Maude), Guy (Louise), George (Faye), and twin brother, Neil (Geraldine), his sister, Virgie (and husband Don) Wean. He is survived by: his loving wife of 65 years, Ann (Rogers) Leatherwood; sons, Dan (Susan) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Ronald (Sally) of Cape Coral, Florida, and Mark (Cathy) of Ashville. He is also survived by sisters-in-law: JoAnn and Barbara Leatherwood. Also left to grieve him are his grandchildren in whom he took great joy: Holly, Chad, Christa, Matthew, Amanda, Sam, Claire, Abby, Adrien and honorary grandchild, Tatiana. In addition to these are 9 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends. Funeral services will be held at Wellman Funeral Home in Ashville on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday September 20, 2013 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Burial will be in Harrison Township Cemetery immediately following the service.
