Gary N. Walsh, 82, of Circleville (formerly Chillicothe), died 2:49 p.m. Wednesday June 1, 2011 at Emeritus at Pinnacle in Grove City. He was born February 15, 1929 in Wilmington, to James and Ruth (Wetzel) Walsh. Gary graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1947 and joined the United States Navy where he served as a Medical Corpsman for four years. Upon his discharge from the Navy he enrolled at Wilmington College in the education field and received his Bachelors Degree in Education in 1956 and continued on at the Ohio State University where he completed a Masters in Educational Administration in 1958. Gary began his teaching career at Kingston H.S. in the fall of 1956 and assumed the Principal/Administrative duties there in 1958. In May of 1965 Zane Trace Middle School was established as a result of the consolidation of Kingston H.S. and Centralia. Gary became principal of Zane Trace Middle School and served in this capacity until 1980. In 1980 he served for one year as Superintendent of the Zane Trace Local School District, retiring in late 1981, after serving twenty-five years in education. In February of 1982, Gary came to Kingston National Bank where he worked full/part-time as a Loan Officer/Collector through May of 2009. Gary is fondly known as the “Colonel” and is to be commended for his years of service to the bank and community. Gary was honored this year as Kingston National Bank Honoree. On May 23, 1952 he married the former Dorothy G. Campbell from Apollo, PA, retired RN at Dupont, who survives. Also surviving are grandchildren, Harrison and Sophia Newman; brother, Treat Ford (Sheriann) Bellmore of Grove City; sister, Dorothy Smith of Columbus; sister-in-law, Billie Walsh; nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, James Walsh; mother, Ruth Bellmore; daughter, Susan Walsh Newman and brother, Donald Walsh. Memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday June 5, 2011 at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville. Friends may call from 1-3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery at a later date.
