George E. Leatherwood, 85, went home to be with His Lord, Monday, June 6, 2011, at Brown Memorial Home. Born February 23, 1926 at Wilson Run to Ed and Iva (Snyder) Leatherwood. He was retired from American Electric Power. He also worked many years for Leatherwood & Associates. He was a previous long-time member of Zion United Methodist Church; a WWII Navy veteran in the Pacific Theater; recipient of the 1997 Distinguished Citizen Award of Ashville, Ohio; and a Sunday School teacher for 35+ years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant son, Joel Allen Leatherwood; first wife, Faye (Jones) Leatherwood; brothers, Guy, Glenn and Neil Leatherwood, and sister, Vergie Lou Wean.
Survived by his beloved wife of 9 years, JoAnn (Clark) Leatherwood; sons, Joe (Pam) Leatherwood of Georgia, and Kelly (Kate) Leatherwood of Washington C.H.; step-daughters, Susan Markel of Columbus; Judith (Mark) Sweeney of Cincinnati; Marilyn (Patrick) Williams of Norwich, Connecticut; grandchildren, Tiffany (Andre) Weathers; Jeremy (Amy) Leatherwood; Danielle (Bivins) Miller; John Leatherwood; step-grandchildren, Vallery Markel, David Markel, Lyndsay Williams, Alina Williams, Julia Sweeney; 3 great-grandchildren; brother, Gale (Ann) Leatherwood; sisters-in-law, Maude Leatherwood, Barbara Leatherwood, Jean Leatherwood; many nieces and nephews, and special friends.
Friends may call at WELLMAN FUNERAL HOME, Ashville, Ohio, 5:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 9, where funeral will be held Friday, June 10 at 11:00 a.m. with Chaplain Jim Ferrell officiating. Burial
will be in Harrison Township Cemetery.
