George A. Poling, 83, of Laurelville passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023 after a long battle with cancer. George served in the Army from September 1963 to September 1965. He retired from Dupont in April 1999 after 32 years. He was a member of Amvets and American Legion. He loved to travel and he did so with his wife. They visited something special in every state but Alaska and Hawaii. They also visited parts of Canada. His favorite was the desert and mountains of the west. He was born July 5, 1940 to Simon and Ethel (Stevens) Poling. He was predeceased by parents; brothers Leo and Marvin and sisters Wilma, Ruth, Shirley and Helen. George is survived by his wife Tonya (Johnson) Poling whom he married on one of their traveling adventures. They were married July 11, 1996 in Deadwood, South Dakota. He is also survived by sons Steven (Krista) Poling, Marty Poling and daughter Kendall Poling; grandchildren Troy, Jacob, Colton, Jessica, Paige, Joey, Aaron and Travis; several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins; step children Trini (Brad) Beaver, Kris (David) Tripp, Terrel (Mark) Edwards, Troy (Kim) Hayes, Jeremy (Crystal) Majors; several step grandchildren and great grandchildren. George had a special bond with Zach his buddy; Kaelie his little loaf of bread; Kaitlyn his little hero. He is also survived by bonus children, grand and great grandchildren; special friends Bev and Lawrence Payne and Charlie and Vicki Davis; good neighbors Charlie and Sharon Fast. He made many friends with coworkers at Dupont and Circle Auto Parts over the years. Visitation will be at Wellman Funeral Home, Laurelville on Thursday, December 7, 2023 from 11-2 p.m. with the funeral at 2 with Rev. Lynn Summers officiating. Burial will follow in Tarlton Cemetery.
