George Edward Milton Sauer, Jr., 86, died November 29, 2014 peacefully at Zusman Hospice in Columbus. He was born on January 7, 1928 in Baltimore, MD to George E.M. Sauer, Sr. and Mabel Addison. In addition to his parents, he was preceeded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary (Penland) Sauer. George is survived by his three children, George, III, Matthew (Judy) and Holly Hanson (Steven); four grandchildren Megan, Randy, Kylie and Amy; brother William Sauer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
George was a US Navy veteran who served in WWII. After the war, he graduated with a degree in Engineering from the University of Miami in Florida. While living in Florida, he was a lifeguard on Miami Beach. During his long industrial engineering career throughout the eastern United States, he made many marks on his profession. Notably, he worked on safety protocols for the Twin Towers in NYC and the Saint Louis Arch. He liked telling the story of riding on an outside lift up the exterior of the Twin Towers as they were being built. He worked for the Atlantic Companies for 25 years.
George was active in local politics in New Jersey and volunteered in many youth organizations including Indian Princesses, soccer and baseball. George was one of the founding coaches in the Circleville Youth Soccer league. He was active in his church, St. Philip’s Episcopal, where he sang in the choir and served on the vestry.
A memorial service and luncheon will be held December 27 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Philip’s, 129 W. Mound St. in Circleville.

George and Mary cherished their rescued dog Shadow and loved all animals.
