Gerald (Jerry) Loy Owens, age 74 of Circleville, Ohio passed away peacefully following a brief illness at Pickaway Manor on January 1, 2019 at 1:01 pm with his daughters by his side.

Gerald was born September 19, 1944 in Circleville, Ohio to Logan Kelly and Mary Elizabeth (Taylor) Owens of Ashville, Ohio. He graduated from Walnut Township High School in 1962 where he was active in band and played basketball. He served 6 years in the Army National Guard of Ohio and was a volunteer fireman for the Harrison Township Fire Department. He enjoyed coaching boys mosquito league baseball and his girls’ softball teams for many years in Ashville. He worked at PPG Industries in Circleville, Ohio for 41 years where he was a maintenance technician and served on the fire brigade before retiring to enjoy travel with his wife, Betty. Jerry was an active member of the VFW Post #7941 in South Bloomfield, Ohio. Jerry enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, golf, singing karaoke, and spending time with friends, family, and his best friend, Copper.  Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty Skaggs, sisters Virginia (Jim) Irwin, and Ruth (Don) Galloway, nieces Donna Jean Irwin, Kelli Jo Pickleseimer, Joyce Gibson, and Libbie Klucken.  Gerald is survived by his sister Anna Mary Wilson, brothers Leroy and John (Diane) Owens, daughters Andrea (Tony Worthington) Owens and Carla (Junior Moore) Hedges, their mother Cookie (Ted) Dollison, grandson William (Josh) Hedges, step-daughters Jackie (Bob) Swayle and Rhonda Landry, and several neices and nephews.  Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Wellman’s Funeral Home in Circleville, Ohio. Burial to follow at Forest Cemetery in Circleville, Ohio.

Visitation will be on Friday from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Wellman’s Funeral Home in Circleville, Ohio. The family would like to invite you to enjoy fellowship and celebrate Jerry’s life at the VFW in South Bloomfield, Ohio after interment. Memorial contributions may be sent to Heartland Hospice.
