Harry Canfield, age 94, passed into his heavenly home on June 10, 2024. He joined Eileen, his wife of 67 years, in glory. He was born to Harry Canfield Sr. and Irma in the town of Eaton Rapids, Michigan. He had many adventures growing up along the Grand River. He lived in Eaton Rapids through high school and worked various jobs, working on a farm, delivering newspapers, and working in an auto mechanic shop. After high school he attended Michigan State College, graduating with a degree in chemical engineering and an ROTC commission as lieutenant of artillery. Harry met Eileen while he was at Michigan State College. Eileen and Harry married and moved to Richmond, Virginia, where he began to work for Dupont. Their first daughter Carol, was born in Richmond and soon after Harry was called into service during the Korean War. He experienced difficult times in Korea, especially during the final battle on Pork Chop Hill. God’s hand of protection was upon him and he returned to the states. While they lived in Richmond, their daughters Sharon and Beth were born. Harry’s career with Dupont took him to six locations culminating in Circleville, Ohio, where he and Eileen retired. Harry and Eileen took great joy in their three daughters and the extended family. Carol Gravenstein lives in Topeka, Kansa and has two of her own children, one who is in Heaven. Carol has seven grandchildren. Sharon their middle daughter has three grown children and seven grandsons. She and her husband, Tom, live in Alexandria, Virginia. The youngest child, Beth has two children and now has four grandchildren. She and her husband Steven reside in Jacksonville, Florida. During retirement, Harry enjoyed staying busy with various activities. Heritage Nazarene Church, Harry’s home church for 47 years, was a place of joy for his worship. He took great delight in helping to finance and build the first phase of the church building. He took great pride in contributing in any way he could to the growth of the church. He loved seeing children’s lives being touched and grown through New Hope Chrisitan Academy. Harry served a good God and was thankful to be used for His glory. God blessed his life greatly, for which he was most thankful. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date.
