Jake Straley

Delmar Ottis "Jake" Straley, 77, of Washington Courthouse, passed away on Thursday July 30, 2009 at Carlton Manor where he had been a resident since May 18, 2009. He had been ill for several years. He was born on September 13, 1931, in Clark County, OH to Catherine Mary (Gannon) Straley and Eugene Lewis Straley. He was preceded in death by his little sister, Mary Catherine Straley; his father, Eugene on October 10, 1966 and his mother, Catherine on June 16, 1996. He was a 1949 graduate of Wayne High School in Good Hope and joined the Marines in 1952 and served in Korea. After he returned home, he married Rosemary Leeth and they farmed for several years, after which he worked for the City of Washington C.H. and then retired from Armco building Technologies in 1986, after 21 years. His favorite hobbies were basketball, horseshoes, boating and fishing. He is also survived by his wife of 55 years, Rosemary Leeth Straley; his children, Patricia Ann (Carl) Rutter of Worthington, Paul Douglas Straley and Vickie Lynn Straley of Washington C.H.; grandchildren, Ray Pearl, Freeman Kinsley and Patrick Eugene Kinsley all of Grove City and Matthew Rutter of Newark; brother, David (Carolyn) Straley of Washington C.H.; 5 sisters, Phyllis (Joe) Wilson of Highland, Joyce (Donnie) White of Bainbridge, Judy (Lynn) Mosley of Frankfurt, Carol Jean (Frank) Everhart of Hillsboro and Linda (Robert) Rhoads of Greenfield, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on Monday August 2, 2009 and a funeral service to tollow at 12:00 noon at the Wellman-Kinzer Funeral Home, 509 Washington Ave. in Washington C.H. with the Rev. Robert Kline officiating. Burial will follow at the Highlawn Cemetery.
