James Edward Callihan, age 85, of Circleville, passed away at 5:12 am on Friday, July 26, 2024 in his home.  James was born on September 9, 1938 in Portsmouth, Ohio to Marjorie and Edward Callihan.  He graduated from Circleville High School in 1956 where he was a member of the marching band, varsity basketball and was an out-standing pitcher for the baseball team.  Upon graduating from Carnegie Institute in Cleveland, he worked for Dr. Anderson and Dr. Hedges as a Medical Lab Technician.  He served two years in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and Fairbanks, Alaska.  He worked as a Lab Technician at Elyria Hospital until he pursued a successful career in Real Estate at Hondros College.  Jim was talented in woodworking and was a self-taught artist earning many awards in local art shows.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman which led him to become a Charter Captain of his boat “Marble Eye” on Lake Erie.  He continued his work in Real Estate until his retirement due to ill health.  Jim was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Patrick.  He is survived by daughters Mary and Erin.  Also surviving is his beloved sister, Sandra, and her husband, Charles Harrison, who were by his side through his long, painful battle with prostate cancer.  Surviving is nephew James Harrison, and nieces, Susan Harrison and Becky Dipert.  Per his wishes, there will be no visitation or service.  Cremation has taken place and Jim will return to his beloved Lake Erie.  Jim was a member of the ELKS, AMVETS, American Legion, VFW and Eagles.  Donations can be made in Jim’s memory to a charity of your choice.  He faithfully supported St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Boy’s Town, Heifer International, Disabled American Veterans, Wounded Warrior Project, Paralyzed Veterans of America and AMVETS.  We thank Heartland Hospice for their excellent care and compassion.  Jim looked forward to visits from his nurse, Shannon, and his special Home Health Aide, Amy, who went above and beyond for all of us.
