James Edward Coakley, 87, of South Bloomingville, passed away Sunday May 2, 2010 at Hickory Creek Nursing Home in The Plains, surrounded by his children. He was born October 4, 1922 in Lancaster, the son of James Darlington “Darl” and Mary Anna (Harris) Coakley. Jim was proud to have served his country in World War II as an Army Engineer and Truck Driver. He was married for 52 years to his beloved wife, Norma Brown Coakley, who passed away in 2003. Jim was also preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters. He is survived by his four sons, Timothy, Danny, Joel and Bryan (Teresa) Coakley; daughter, Melanie Coakley; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer (Ted) Hayes, Tina (Christopher) Wilson, Joey (Lydia) Coakley, Timothy James Coakley, Andrew Hooper and Austin Seifert; 6 great grandchildren, Blake Coakley, Leah & Will Taynor, Conner Fisher, Isaiah and Trinity Hayes and sister, Belva Reedy of Lancaster. Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday May 6, 2010 at the Wellman Funeral Home, Laurelville. Burial will be in Otterbein Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
