James F. Heacock , born May 27, 1929, Battlecreek, Iowa, died October 30, 2010, Columbus, Ohio. Son of the late Vernon and Edna Heacock. Preceded in death by his sister, Patricia O’Leary. Survived by his wife, Phyllis Heacock; daughter, Patricia Heacock; son, James T. Heacock; daughter-in-law, Nancy Heacock; and grandchildren, Jonathan, Benjamin, and Sarah Heacock.

Jim earned his bachelor’s degree from Morningside College and his Masters and PhD from Oklahoma State University. He served in the United States Army from 1953 – 1955. He and Phyllis were married on May 28, 1957.

Jim worked as a research chemist for DuPont. He helped open the Circleville Kapton plant. He retired from the company in 1987, but continued to work for many years afterwards as a research consultant.

Jim was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed canoeing, camping, hiking, backpacking, and spelunking.

Jim was active with youth throughout his adult life, serving as a baseball coach in Oklahoma, a Sunday school teacher at Community United Methodist Church in Circleville, and a Scoutmaster of Troop 52 in Circleville. During his 19 year tenure as scoutmaster, he led five Philmont treks and saw 37 young men reach the rank of Eagle.

Friends may call 4-7 PM Thursday at Wellman Funeral Home, 1455 North Court Street, Circleville, Ohio. Funeral Service will be held Friday at 2:00 PM at Community United Methodist Church, 120 North Pickaway, Circleville, Ohio.
