Jay E. Broughton, 53, of Laurelville, died April 16, 2008 at his residence. He was born December 10, 1954 in Ironton, the son of Chester and Evelyn (Douglas) Broughton. He was a Rifleman/Sharpshooter Corporal E-4 in the U.S. Marines. He was honorably discharged March 21, 1978. He received the National Defense Service Medal, 2 Good Conduct Medals and Rifle Badge Expert. He worked as a train crew foreman at Columbus Steele Castings formerly Buckeye Steele for over 30 years. He was a beloved husband, father and son. He will be missed by all whose lives he touched and blessed while with us. He was preceded in death by his adopted parents, Chester and Evelyn (Douglas) Broughton and Mary's husband, Berkley Carrico. He is survived by his mother, Mary Frances Carrico of Ironton; wife, Phyllis J. (Francis) Broughton; children, Jason Edward Broughton and Tina Jonnelle Broughton of Ironton, Nicole Etasha Tway of Circleville and Kimberly Danielle (Tway) Harter of Laurelville; grandchildren, Shelby Louise and Amanda Lee Broughton and Damien Nicholas Newcomb all of Ironton; brothers, Berk Ray Carrico, Daniel (Julie) Broughton and Bobby (Mary) Broughton; sisters, Maxine Blankenship, Brenda Bartrum, Cindy Delawder, Joy Crowe of Ironton and Sally Burke of South Point and sisters-in-law, Maxine Holbrook and Wanda Louise Graves. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday April 21, 2008 at the Wellman Funeral Home, Laurelville. Burial will be in Green Summit Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
