Jeanne Avalee (Rose) Metzger, of Williamsport, died November 12, 2011 at Berger Hospital after a valiant struggle with leukemia. She was born March 27, 1933 in Circleville the daughter of Charles and Clarabel (Rihl) Rose. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Cooke Metzger of Williamsport, brother Byron (Karen) Rose of Williamsport, nephew Bret Rose, children Randy (Cynthia), Rick (Stephanie) and Darren (Susan) Metzger and Kristen (Mel) Earich, grandchildren Erin (Jeremy) Scott, Lauren (Ted) Dille, Ryan, Kalie, Addison, Andrew and Blake Metzger and Mallory, Evan and Eli Earich. She was proud great-grandmother of Zach and Zoe Scott and Trey Dille. Jeanne was a much beloved school librarian for 32 years, serving both Jackson and Westfall Elementary Schools. She loved and took pride in her career, and deeply touched the lives of hundreds of elementary school children. Her special talent was making children feel safe and secure. She graduated from Williamsport High School in 1951 and married in August 1953, spending 58 wonderful years with her loving husband. Jeanne excelled at interior decorating , making her home warm, inviting and peaceful to all those who entered. Jeanne grew up with and in younger years, enjoyed singing with her very special cousin Rosemary Rihl McCalla, with whom she maintained an extraordinary sisterly relationship throughout her lifetime. She was especially fond of her good friends Shirley Bowser, Pat Metzger and Connie Stoker. Jeanne was a gracious, unassuming and giving person who spent her life finding the good in others. Her greatest joy was her family, and she never failed to remember birthdays, anniversaries and special events in which her family members were involved. Jeanne was a steadfast mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a role model for all those who knew her. Calling hours for Jeanne’s family will be held at Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville Tuesday November 15 from 2-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held there the following day at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Springlawn Cemetery, Williamsport. Those who wish to celebrate Jeanne’s life are invited to Crown Hill in Williamsport on January 7, 2012 from 4-8 p.m. at which time positive and cherished memories of Jeanne can be shared. In lieu of flowers friends may donate, in memory of Jeanne, to Westfall Education Foundation.
