John R. Lake Jr., 77, died Thursday, September 21, 2023. He was born in Circleville, Ohio on August 18, 1946 to John R. and Anna Belle (Carle) Lake. He graduated from Bishop Flaget High School in 1965 and attended Franklin University. He was a plastics engineer for many years at USS Chemicals, Pittsburg, PA, Premix-Lancaster, Circle Plastics, Circleville and Tigerpoly, Grove City. When he retired he always said his best job was at Wellman Funeral Home. He met and married Shirley A. Southward in September of 1969. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, Knights of Columbus 5297 and 4th Degree Assembly 1761. He also enjoyed helping with the Circle of Caring when they built ramps. He was a big fan of Pittsburgh Steelers and Corvetts. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Rosalie Moore; brother Ralph Lake; brother-in-law’s Scott McFarland, Robert Imboden and sister-in-law’s Beverly Imboden and Brenda Southward Kokai. He is survived by his wife Shirley; sons Brian (Angie), Aaron (Andrea DeVault) and Adam (Kim) Lake; grandchildren Carly, Augie, Natalie, Abby Lake and Breanne Williams; sisters Karen McFarland, Peg (Robert) Burton, Mary (Charlie) White and Betsy (Terry) Hupp; brother and sister-in-law’s Rodger and Patty Southward and Bruce and Vicki McConnell, James Kokai brother-in-law and Cheri Lake sister-in-law and by several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 3-6 p.m. Sunday, September 24, 2023 at the Wellman Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church on Monday, September 25, 2023 with burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Donations may be made to St. Joseph Church.
