John Raterman

John Richard Raterman died peacefully in his sleep on September 25, 2024. His favorite season has always been fall and to no surprise has chosen this season to rest.

John (Johnny) was born and grew up in McCartyville, Ohio.  He obtained a B.S. degree in engineering from the University of Cincinnati, and later an M.B.A. from Central Michigan.  While at U/C he joined the ROTC and continued on to serve in the Air Force as a meteorologist after graduation.

Soon after he began his career with General Electric, and  a few brief moves landed in Circleville, Ohio in 1970, where he and his wife Mary Ann raised their three children.

Following his career as an engineer, John became a substitute schoolteacher and did so for 21 years. His passion for learning and mentoring never ceased. John had a passion for life, jokes, fishing, fitness, saunas and traveling the world.

John is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Raterman. His children, Richard and Charlene Raterman. James and Cindy Raterman. Julie and Suren Tchobanian. His  sisters Rosemary Raterman and Ellen (Buelow) Raterman. His brother Tom and sister in law Lena Raterman. His grandchildren: Mitchell, Mason, Josie, Warren, Jonah, CJ, Clay, and Taylor.

He is preceded in death by his parents Mary Elizabeth and Clarence Bernard Raterman. His sister Virginia (Seewer) and brother Robert Raterman.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Saint Joseph’s Church in Circleville, Ohio. Visitation will begin at 10AM with a mass following at 11AM, and then burial at the Saint Joseph cemetery, in Circleville, Ohio. Lunch will be served after at  St. Joseph’s Church. 134 W. Mound St., Circleville, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers John has requested that donations be made to St. Jude’s or the VFW.
