Kenneth Eugene Harness, 87, of Circleville went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 16, 2023. Ken was born May 2nd, 1935 in Richland County, Illinois to Raleigh and Iva (Anthis) Harness. He married Hazel (Sager) Harness on February 6, 1955 and recently celebrated 68 years of marriage. They raised their children Harold, Gary, and Cheryl in central Illinois. Ken worked for one employer his whole career, General Telephone (GTE), and retired after 38 years with the company.
Soon after retirement, Ken and Hazel moved to Circleville, Ohio, and continued an active lifestyle with involvement in community and religious organizations. They led exercise classes at the Pickaway Senior Center, volunteered at Berger Hospital, served on the board at Hands for Disabled, and were active members of First English Lutheran Church for several years before transferring to Community United Methodist Church. Ken also spent several years building wheelchair ramps through Circle of Caring. His dedication to his community, smile, and eagerness to start up a conversation will be remembered.
Ken was preceded in death by his son, Gary, grandson, Gary Daniel Jr. (Danny), sister Bernice, and brothers Raleigh Jr, Harold, Robert, and Henry (“Buddy”) Harness.
Ken will be truly missed by his loving wife Hazel, son Harold (Pam) Harness, daughter Cheryl (Steve) Bowling, eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Elmer Harness, sisters Catherine Whipkey, Delores (“Dee”) Mason, and Linda (Norman) Ochs, along with several beloved nieces and nephews and special friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 19 from 2pm until 4pm at Wellman’s Funeral Home, 1455 North Court Street, Circleville, Ohio. The funeral will be held Monday, March 20 at 10:30 am at Community United Methodist Church, 120 N. Pickaway St, Circleville. Interment to follow at Jackson Township Cemetery, Circleville, OH.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Community United Methodist Church or Pickaway Senior Center.
