Dr. Larry Freeman Schofield 86 of Circleville, OH went to heaven with the angels on February 19,2025. Larry was born July 26,1938 in Fort Collins, Colorado and raised in Bellvue, Colorado with his parents Freeman George and Hattie Rebecca (Mackey) Schofield. In addition to his parents Larry is preceded by death by daughter Deana Monique McCabe and son Stephen Eugene Moore. Larry is survived by his wife he loved dearly of nearly 50 years Lorene ( McCormick) Schofield, two sisters Jo & Ken Johnston and Betty & Larry Friend, daughters Christina & Dale Taylor, Sondra & John Nowowiejski and Norma & Randy Brown. Larry has been blessed with amazing grandchildren; Joshua Alan Moore & his son Wiliam Elijah Moore, Ashley & Joey Radcliff, Andrea & Michael Brant, Sonny & Nichole Brown, Randy & Miranda Brown, Paula & John Chaney, Preston Taylor, Briana & Joshua Clinton, Dezerrae Nelson, Stephen Nelson and Dayawna Nelson. He enjoyed the blessings of his several nieces and nephews and 15 great grandkids from 17 years old to not quite one years old.
Larry was quite the scholar by working & teaching his way through a BA at the University of Colorado, Colorado State University, University of Oklahoma, MA at the university of Tulsa and Ph.D. at the University of Missouri. Larrry completed a residency in Miami, Fl with the V.A. started as a Psychologist with the V.A. in Hot Springs, S.D. and landed with Chillicothe V.A. as administrative Psychologist. Larry retired as Chief Psychologist after 40 years at the Veterans Administration in Chillicothe and then retired as a professor of Psychology for OU Chillicothe. As a Psychologist Larry was involved in his community by heading up the Board of the Mental Health Department, testing for several youths and was the main lead in creating ramps that we now use throughout our sidewalks for the handicapped.
Larry was a kind devout Christian man who Loved God and church, played the piano, played football (nick name Scoop), a total outdoors mountain man by heart, gardener, Rockhound and of course trekking after birds and the love of all animals. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville with burial to follow in Forest Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from 11-12. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a church of one’s choice or Pickaway County Community Foundation.
