Lawrence Harold Sullenberger passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Berger

hospital, surrounded by family. He was born March 6, 1946, in Troy, Ohio, the eldest of seven

children of Samuel David and Doris Jean (Minnich) Sullenberger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Norman D. Sullenberger and Samuel J. Sullenberger, sisters Theresa A. Kriete and Mary E. Sullenberger, and son David W. Sullenberger. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sheila C. (Bickle) Sullenberger of Circleville (formerly Williamsport), brothers Michael D. Sullenberger (Maxine) of Christiansburg, Paul D. Sullenberger (Elaine) of Piqua, sister-in-law Effie M. Sullenberger (Sam) of West Liberty, sons Dale L. Sullenberger (Connie) of Williamsport, Daniel W. Sullenberger of Circleville, Daughter in law Susan A. Sullenberger (David) of Hilliard, and Daughter Jean Ellen Sullenberger of Circleville, three grandchildren, Kristine D. Ferriman (David) of Miamisburg, Kraig L. Carlson (Brittani) of Hilliard, and Nathaniel D. Sullenberger of Williamsport, eight great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Lawrence grew up in Christiansburg, OH where he was active in 4H, and F.F.A.,

graduating from A.B. Graham High School in 1964. He started with General Telephone (GTE) in 1965 in Troy and was transferred to Circleville area in 1970, settling in Williamsport where he lived for over 45 years. He retired from GTE in 1993, attained a degree in nursing and worked as a LPN at the V.A. Medical Center in Chillicothe from 1995 until retiring in 2008.

He believed deeply in supporting and being a part of the community in which he lived.

He was a volunteer firefighter in Christiansburg and Williamsport, volunteer EMS in Circleville, part of the team that formed, and a charter member of Williamsport EMS (WADES) and served as the Operations Chief for its first eleven years. He was Cub Scout Master, Boy Scout Advisor, Little League Umpire, Pastor / Parish relations committee at Williamsport U.M.C., Sunday School Teacher, a Red Cross First Aid and CPR instructor, and an active Westfall Booster for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served 1965-1967. He enjoyed being outdoors and loved hunting and fishing. He attended Cornerstone Christian Church in Circleville, and was a member of Heber Lodge #501 F.& A. M. and Heber Chapter #62 O.E.S. in Williamsport, a plural member of Mt. Olivet #226 F.& A.M in Christiansburg, and a Colonel of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.

Visitation at Wellman Funeral Home Circleville will be from 4:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. on

Friday, July 19 with a Masonic service open to all at 7:45p.m., and from 10:00a.m. until

11:00a.m. on Saturday, July 20 prior to the 11:00a.m. funeral service, with internment at

Springlawn cemetery in Williamsport, OH.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals (lovetotherescue.org).  Online condolences can be made to www.wellmanfuneralhomes.com.
