Leighton E. McFerren, 90, of Circleville, died May 4, 2012 in Chillicothe. He was born August 7, 1921 in Hoskinsville, OH the son of Marvin and Gladys (McGee) McFerren. He was a member of Crossroads Church of Christ in Christian Union, the American Association of Retired Teachers, life member of both Pickaway Co. and Ohio Retired Teachers Association. He was a charter member and the first chaplain of the Circleville Leatherneck Detachment. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of WWII serving in the South Pacific. He was a graduate of Belle Valley High School class of 1938 and The Ohio State University with a B.S. in 1948. He attended Circleville Bible College and was ordained a minister in the Churches of Christ in Christian Union at the Mount of Praise, Circleville on August 22, 1957. He retired from Teays Valley District, Ashville where he taught for 20 years, in 1986. In 1990, he went to the mission field where he and his wife Rose served on the Texas-Mexico border. He pastored the Five Points Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Rose, on January 31, 1999, one brother Herman L. “Roy” and one sister Dorothy. On June 19, 1949 he was united in marriage with Rose Etta Jackson. To this union was born 3 sons William (Sharon) of MO., John (Judy) of TN. and Robert (Roni) of Williamsport, 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one brother Charles F. “Fred” of TN and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday May 7, 2012 at Crossroads Church with Rev. Mike Holbrook officiating. Burial will be in Hoskinsville Cemetery, Noble Co. Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville. Memorial contributions may be made to Circleville Leatherneck Detachment or Pickaway Co. Retired Teachers Association Student Grant Fund
