Leland Johnson

Leland D. Johnson, 88, of Laurelville, Ohio went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 14, 2024, after a pro-longed illness.

He was born May 2, 1936 to the late Glenn and Mae (Unger) Johnson of South Bloomingville, Ohio.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearlina, of 59 years, brothers, Dale and Leonard.

Leland was an ordained minister with the Churches of Christ in Christian Union and pastored the Pleasant Ridge Church in Laurelville, Ohio for 50 years.  He was also a board member for Mount of Praise Camp for several years and worked maintenance at the General Headquarters.  He was a school teacher at different schools with his last years at Westfall School.

Leland, Pearlina and family were missionaries in Papua, New Guinea from 1966 to 1979 ministering to the people there.

Surviving are children: Joanie (John) Vannatter, Jeff (Nancy) Johnson, James (Rebecca) Johnson, Jonathan (Crystal) Johnson, Julie Johnson; 14 grandchildren: Matthew (Mindy) Vannatter, Michael (Stephanie) Vannatter, MacKenzie (Ryan) Ogan, Miles Vannatter, Morgan Vannatter, Jason Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Daniel (Sarah) Johnson, Jennifer (Phoebe) Carpenter, Joseph Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Jacob Johnson,  and Jayla Johnson.  Also had 9 great-grandchildren: Jeremiah and Gabriel Jones, Amadeo, Rilei Vannatter, Kayden Vannatter, Kole Ogan, Aurora Ogan, Joshua Vannatter and Anna Mae Johnson; and brother, Winfield.

He also worked in construction and home repair.  He was a talented man of God who never met a stranger.  He will be missed by family, friends and many other people who were touched by his life.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, September 19, 2024 at the Pleasant Ridge Church, Laurelville, Ohio.

Calling hours will be observed 3 to 8 p.m. at the Circleville Wellman Funeral Home and 1 hour before service at the church.
