Lois (Jividen) Hartley

Lois Ruth Hartley of Huntington, WV passed away on October 21, 2024. Growing up in Cross Lanes, WV, Lois loved reading and theater, student council and the debate team, and looking up to her beloved older brother, the late H. Buford Jividen.

While planning her high school class reunion, Lois reconnected with fellow classmate Jim Hartley, who would become her husband of 53 years. She attended college on a Thespian scholarship, and served as the executive assistant to the Presidents of Marshall University and WV State College.

Lois will be most remembered for her love of family. She surprised them with travel adventures and birthday celebrations, created memories at “balloon town” and the “vacay,” and shared her joy in creative storytelling. She taught many of them to read as children and inspired them to create their own stories. Her grandchildren called her “Mo Mo,” named after a favorite children’s book.

She is survived by her husband Jim Hartley, daughters Jaime Stewart (Philip) and Nicole Stover (Tom), son Ron Hartley, cousin Ellen Strange (Nick) who was like a sister to her, grandchildren Chase and Tucker Polen, Evelyn and Thomas Stover, Veronica Settles (Logan), and Isabelle Hartley, and newborn great grandson Hayden Settles.
