Lydia Alice DeLong passed away at Ohio Health Berger Hospital, Circleville on Saturday, October 14, 2023.  Born on April 11, 1939 in Circleville, Ohio to Ralph and Leona (Bowman) DeLong. She attended Washington Township School and graduated from Circleville High School.  She was predeceased by her parents, aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.  Her working career began as a secretary to the Superintendent of Pickaway County Schools.  She retired from the Ohio Department of Education in the transportation division.  Leona was a 4-H Club advisor for  the Washington Township Button & Bowls 4-H Club; therefore Lydia enjoyed many years of sewing and cooking instructions from her mother and other advisors.  Lydia was a 50 plus year member of the Grange belonging to Washington, Saltcreek Valley, Pomona, Ohio State and National Granges.  St. Paul Church was a vital part of her life from childhood until her death.  As a member she served for approximately 50 years as pianist, organist, and treasurer.  Also, during that time, she served as treasurer of the women’s group of the church.  She was an avid Ohio State University football fan attending many home games.  She also followed the Cincinnati Reds and many Logan Elm High School athletic activities.  Weaving baskets, knitting and making greeting cards were favorite pastimes for her.  Recipients of her beautiful work were very appreciative.  Surviving are many Bowman and DeLong cousins.  Visitation for Lydia will be Tuesday, October 17th at Wellman Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. and on Wednesday, October 18th from 10-11 a.m.  A memorial service for Lydia will be held at Wellman Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow in Forest Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made in Lydia’s name to St. Paul United Methodist Church, Jeanie Lands, 22796 Ringgold Southern Road, Stoutsville, Ohio 43154.   Online condolences can be made to www.wellmanfuneralhomes.com.
