Martha Margaret Edna Payne McNichols went to be with the Lord Tuesday February 1, 2011 at Mt. Carmel West Hospital in Columbus. She was born July 27, 1925 to Lawrence William and Dessie (Hutchinson) Payne at home near Laurelville. Martha was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Morl William Payne, Barton E. Payne and Carry Elmer Payne and sisters, Cleo Payne Pierce, Fern Payne and Lucy Payne Schiederer. Martha is survived by husband, Ralph C. McNichols, son, Ralph “Bud” (Martha) McNichols, Jr. of Lockbourne; daughter, Margaret A. McNichols (Robert W.) Johnston of St. Petersburg, FL; son, Robert “Bob” R. (Paula Thompson) McNichols of Kingman, AZ; daughter, Saundra “Sandy” McNichols (Mack E.) Woodgeard of Laurelville; 9 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Martha graduated from Laurelville, and later worked at Curtis Wright as a riveter on planes during the war. She married Ralph October 1945 in Corpus Christi, TX and they purchased a farm in Vinton County, after he left the Navy. They later moved to Florida returning to the farm after several years. The love of both states has taken them north and south until they started spending summers in Ohio attending First Church of Christ in Christian Union on Ohio St. in Circleville the last several years and spent winters in Spring Hill, FL where they attended Calvery Communtiy Church until she became disabled due to a broken leg in April 2010 and they had to move to Ohio where she has been in Logan Elm Skilled Nursing care sine June. Martha was loved by all and will be sorely missed. She was well known for always being ready and willing to prepare a meal for anyone that dropped in or happened to be ministering at their church until she was no longer physically able to do so. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday February 4, 2011 at the C.C.C.U. on Ohio St. with Pastor Greg Gardner officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Community Church Cemetery 24849 Pole Ridge Rd., So. Bloomingville. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville.
