Mary Louise (Campen) Clifton, 91 of Circleville, Ohio passed away on June 14, 2024 in Naples, Florida
with loving family by her side. She was born on April 24, 1933 in Columbus, Ohio to Allen B. Campen and
Elizabeth C. (Marsh) Campen.
Mary was a 1950 graduate of South HS in Columbus, Ohio and a 1954 graduate of The Ohio State
University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. She Married William D. Clifton on June 18,
1955. Mary worked in many fields of Nursing before retiring in 1995. She and Bill enjoyed spending the
winter months in Florida and traveling throughout the USA. Mary was a member of the Trinity Lutheran
Church in Circleville and a 70-year member of the OES #90 of Circleville. She was selected as Woman of
the Year by AAUW.
Mary is survived by daughters Nancy Louise Wyrick of Arlington, Texas and Marie Elizabeth (Beth)
McClanahan (Jeff) of Naples, Florida; grandchildren Amy L. (Jeremy) Pike, Drew Wyrick, Kevin (Ashley)
McClanahan, Stephen Howell, William D. Clifton II (DC), and Ryan (Mona) Clifton; great grandchildren
Sydney, Ella, Kyndall, Kaden, Lucas and John; nieces and nephews Carla, Dan, Susan, Patt, Jane and Mary
Ann; and numerous great nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband
William D. Clifton (Bill); son David W. Clifton; sisters Kathryn Campen and Joanne Trump; a dear uncle
Seren and aunt Virginia Marsh of Greenville, Ohio; nephew Jeffrey Clifton; and nieces Jan Knox and
Nancy Phelps.
Mary was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and aunt, but her most cherished role of all was that of
being a grandma and Mimi. She had a special bond with each one and cherished every second she spent
with them.
Mary also belonged to a very special “card club” with members Jean Crist and Jean Fissell, and deceased
members Margaret Ann Fullen, Jaunita McGuire, Norma Gulick, Ethel Davis and Betty Bingman, who
were very dear friends throughout her life and she felt as though they were her family members.
Funeral Service will be held 1pm Monday, June 24, 2024 with the Rev. Richard Westinghouse officiating.
Burial will follow in Forest Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service from
10am-1pm. The family requests donations in her honor to the Shrine Hospitals for Children, the Multiple
Sclerosis Society or the charity of your choice.
