Melissa Coates, 81, of Westerville, formerly of Washington C.H. passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2010 in Westerville. She was born on April 23, 1929 in Chillicothe to Franke and Marie (Kissel) Umphris. Mrs. Coates was a former bus driver for Miami Trace Local School District and was awarded the Kentucky Colonel Outstanding Service Award by Commonwealth of Kentucky.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Jeff Coates, one daughter, Nancy Beverly, two grandsons, William and Curtis Coates and by one granddaughter, Megan Beverly and by one sister.
Mrs. Coates is survived by her husband of Westerville, Cecil Coates, her children, Susan (Joe) Tuemler of Cincinnati, Rane (Howard) Cassidy of Westerville, grandchildren, Martin Coates, Melissa, John and J.D. East, Crystal Parrish, Tiffany Gibson, Dwayne and Amber Beverly and by several great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Coates will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 1:00 p.m.in the Wellman-Kinzer Funeral Home with burial to follow in Washington Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m.
